At Amgen’s production site in Breda, artificial intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of daily operations. Smart cameras, data analytics, and chatbots support employees in detecting disruptions faster and optimizing processes. “Our strength lies in flexibility,” says Bart Kennes, Senior Manager Operations. “We package medicines for dozens of countries, each with its own specific requirements. That demands agile processes – and AI is playing an increasingly important role in achieving that.”
One example is the use of a smart camera powered by a self-trained algorithm. “What used to take months of manual work can now be automated in just a few weeks,” Kennes explains. “And because the system remains predictable, it continues to meet our strict quality standards.”
