Established in 1990, the Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE), is an innovative science education program that introduces secondary school students to the excitement of scientific discovery and builds bridges between school and real-life biosciences. The program provides teachers with professional development and education materials and loans research-grade equipment to high schools all at no cost. Worldwide, the program has reached 1.2 million students to date.
In the Netherlands, the Amgen Biotech Experience has partnered with the Reizende DNA-labs since 2016. The program supports them with laboratory equipment on loan and educational materials, enabling around 9,000 high school students annually to participate in various hands-on lab sessions.

Another key component of the Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) is the Master Teacher Fellowship — an annual program that recognizes ABE educators and gives them the opportunity to further develop their expertise. With guidance from the ABE Global Program Office, Fellows explore a topic of personal interest in bioscience to design and develop a project and corresponding classroom resources. After completing the Fellowship, Fellows may choose to serve as advisors, contributing to the continued development and depth of the ABE program.

Established in 2006, the Amgen Scholars Program is an undergraduate summer research experience hosted at 26 premier educational and research institutions across the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia and Canada. Participants benefit by conducting a research project under top faculty, participating in seminars and networking events and taking part in a symposium in their respective region.
Throughout the program, participants meet peers, present their research findings, learn about biotechnology and hear from leading scientists. Financial support for students is a critical component of the program, which helps ensure that eligible students, regardless of income, can participate.
