The Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) is an innovative science education program that gives secondary school students a first-hand introduction to the fascinating world of science. Since its launch in 1990, it has been sparking student enthusiasm for biotechnology. Amgen’s education program is now available in twenty countries across the globe.
In the Netherlands, the Amgen Biotech Experience partnered with the Reizende DNA-labs in 2017. The program supports them with laboratory equipment and educational materials, enabling around 9,000 high school students annually to participate in various hands-on lab sessions.

Another key component of the Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) is the Master Teacher Fellowship — an annual program that recognizes ABE educators and gives them the opportunity to further develop their expertise. Fellows contribute to the program through LabXchange and other teaching materials. With support from an Amgen advisor, they choose a life science topic, conduct a curriculum project, and create associated classroom resources.
Educators in the Netherlands have also completed this fellowship. Watch the video to hear their stories:

The Amgen Scholars Program, established in 2006, is a summer research opportunity for undergraduate students at 25 premier educational and research institutions across the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Canada. Participants conduct research projects under the guidance of leading faculty, attend seminars and networking events, and present their findings at a regional symposium.
Throughout the program, students connect with peers, showcase their work, explore biotechnology, and engage with world-class scientists. Financial support is a key part of the program, ensuring that all eligible students — regardless of financial background — can take part.
